Winter Thaw
Response for the microfiction writing challenge
She slammed the door behind her and bounded down the stairs. The sunshine had thawed some of the snow, and a few more minutes of daylight remained. She walked towards the church spire in the distance, past skinny crowded residences and parked cars lining the snowy sidewalks. In the distance was a clearing by the park; she saw a body laying on the sidewalk, still, and crumpled. Injured, maybe dead. She looked; no one was around. She walked towards it stochastically, like a city squirrel. She held her breath as she came behind the woman. It was only a towel.
